VCPOP
Ventura County Power Over Psychosis is Ventura County Behavioral Health’s specialized early psychosis program serving youth and young adults ages 12–25 throughout Ventura County.
Treatment is individualized and may continue for up to four years. Services focus on helping young people manage symptoms, build coping skills, reduce stress, strengthen family support, and return to school, work, and everyday activities.
Like many health conditions, psychosis is often more manageable when identified and treated early. Early intervention can help reduce the impact of symptoms and improve long-term quality of life.
Early Support Makes a Difference
When something feels different, it is worth paying attention. The earlier support begins, the more it may help.
Some changes worth noticing:
- Spending more time alone and withdrawing from family or friends
- Experiencing significant changes in sleep habits or eating habits
- Struggling at school, work, or in everyday life
- Losing interest in activities they once enjoyed
- Appearing unusually worried, fearful, or suspicious
- Talking about experiences that you do not see or hear, such as someone calling their name or believing that someone is going to hurt them
- Seeming unlike themselves in ways that concern you
Not every change is cause for concern. But if several changes happen at once, get stronger, or last a long time, it may help to get support.
“I spent a lot of time feeling scared or upset. It was hard for me to know what was ‘real’ and what wasn’t. I’m feeling so much better now.”
You Are Not Alone
Many families go through periods when they know something is wrong but are not sure exactly what it is.
The good news is that you do not need to have all the answers before reaching out for help.
Whether you are a concerned parent, a family member, or a young person who feels like something isn’t quite right, support is available. The first step is to reach out to VCPOP.
