Vaccines\u00a0remain\u00a0one of the greatest achievements in modern medicine, supported by overwhelming scientific consensus. They not only protect individuals, but also strengthen community resilience by reducing the spread of infectious\u00a0diseases.<\/p><p>California\u00a0and\u00a0American Academy of Pediatrics-recommended vaccines\u00a0will continue to be covered by health plans and insurers regulated by the State of California. Vaccines can be received at no cost from your doctor, some local pharmacies, or other authorized providers. To schedule your vaccine appointment, contact your health care provider or visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/myturn.ca.gov\/__;!!EuW5fDSpzeg!dMiPPUhyvEY9Xr4Sf7Zn3fPOFqckxOFRFKmJRVWxqoVTNLtf0PHTUC3V4rBjTov5nvAncQ-xMCmorRgcJ_-vh6WoRXT5gwPdCI2gbhSx$\">myturn.ca.gov<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>California\u00a0will continue to emphasize science-based policies that protect families and communities and promote\u00a0universal\u00a0vaccine access.<\/p><p>We recently launched the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2025\/09\/03\/california-oregon-and-washington-to-launch-new-west-coast-health-alliance-to-uphold-scientific-integrity-in-public-health-as-trump-destroys-cdcs-credibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Coast Health Alliance<\/a>\u00a0with our partners in Washington,\u00a0Oregon,\u00a0and Hawaii as a unified regional partnership to uphold scientific integrity in public health and protect residents from politically motivated federal decisions. As part of this commitment, we are reaffirming that our states will continue to follow\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/publichealth4all\/vaccines.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vaccine schedule\u00a0recommended<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP),\u00a0rather than adopting the new, arbitrary\u00a0federal schedule that\u00a0reduces the\u00a0number of diseases\u00a0from which it\u00a0recommends protection. The AAP&#8217;s guidance is grounded in decades of\u00a0rigorous research and clinical experience, ensuring vaccines remain one of the most effective tools to prevent disease outbreaks and safeguard children&#8217;s health.<\/p><p>California is committed to reviewing available vaccine science and following credible, independent medical guidance ensuring that every resident has access to safe, effective immunizations that save lives\u2014and keep Californians healthy and strong.<\/p><p>Background on California actions to protect coverage of preventive care services:<\/p><ul><li>In September 2025, Governor Newsom signed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2025\/09\/17\/following-trumps-politicization-of-cdc-west-coast-states-issue-unified-vaccine-recommendations-california-breaks-from-future-federal-guidance-with-new-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assembly Bill (AB) 144<\/a>\u00a0protecting access to preventive care services, including vaccinations. AB 144 requires health plans in California to cover preventive care services recommended by the federal government as of January 1, 2025, or recommended by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), with no cost-sharing or prior authorization for health plan members.<\/li><li>The DMHC issued\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmhc.ca.gov\/Portals\/0\/Docs\/OPL\/APL25-015-AssemblyBill144andCoverageofPreventiveCareServices(9_18_2025).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">All Plan Letter 25-015,\u00a0<\/a>providing information and guidance to licensed health plans on the protections enacted under AB 144. The DHCS issued a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mcweb.apps.prd.cammis.medi-cal.ca.gov\/news\/33654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provider update<\/a>\u00a0on Medi-Cal coverage of vaccines, per AB 144 requirements.<\/li><li>DMHC&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmhc.ca.gov\/Portals\/0\/Docs\/DO\/COVID-FactSheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVID-19 fact sheet<\/a>\u00a0PDF\u00a0provides important information about health plan coverage for COVID-19 vaccines, tests, and treatment. If the member is unsatisfied with their plan&#8217;s response, or has an urgent issue, they can file a complaint with the DMHC Help Center at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmhc.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.DMHC.ca.gov<\/a>.
