Syphilis is curable, though if left untreated, the infection can lead to long-term health problems. Infection is especially harmful to pregnant mothers and their unborn babies.<\/p><p><strong>Prevention<\/strong><\/p><p>If you are sexually active (vaginal, anal, oral), you can do the following things to prevent syphilis:<\/p><ul><li>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/condom-use\/resources\/external.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">external<\/a> or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/condom-use\/resources\/internal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">internal<\/a>\u00a0latex condoms\u00a0<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/STI\/Sexual-Health.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Practice safe sex<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Testing <\/strong><\/p><p>You should get tested regularly for syphilis if you are sexually active.
