Ventura County Nurses Invite Community to “Light Up the Sky” for Nurses Event
VENTURA, Calif. – During National Nurses Week (May 6–9, 2026), nurses from Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC), Santa Paula Hospital (SPH), county ambulatory care and public health will join a nationwide tribute led by the American Nurses Association to honor the extraordinary impact of nurses through the “Nurses Light Up the Sky” initiative.
Recognized as The Year of the Power of Nurses, this year’s celebration transforms local landmarks into glowing symbols of gratitude, spotlighting the vital, often unseen work nurses deliver every day to keep communities healthy.
Join us on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the main entrance to VCMC as Ventura County comes together in a powerful visual tribute to nurses across the region. The lighting display will feature ambient lighting only at the front of the hospital.
This event is more than illumination—it’s a movement. Last year, more than 200 buildings nationwide lit up in solidarity, reflecting a growing wave of appreciation and recognition for the nursing profession and honor nurses of all types, not just at VCMC and SPH, but those across the County.
“Nurses across Ventura County have always been a source of strength for our community, and this event allows us to honor that impact in a visible and meaningful way.”
By lighting up the skyline, Ventura County nursing aims to:
- Shine a light on nursing: Elevate public awareness of nurses’ critical role in patient care and community health.
- Celebrate and uplift: Inspire pride and recognition among nurses across specialties and the County during their week of honor.
- Unite the community: Encourage residents to participate by sharing photos and messages using #NursesLightUpTheSky.
- Inspire action: Invite the public to share stories of care and recognize the nurses who have made a difference in their lives.
- “Many of our patients tell us that it was a nurse who made them feel seen, safe, and understood. Lighting up the sky is our way of celebrating those everyday impacts”
Don’t miss this opportunity to capture a striking visual moment and powerful community story. Media outlets are encouraged to attend, cover, and help amplify the voices of nurses who make a difference every day in Ventura County.
